P & R Hurt, Electrical & Mechanical Services started in 1985, as an electrical contractor carrying out domestic, commercial and industrial work, with a specialisation of working in Hazardous Areas i.e. Explosive Atmospheres. We are ECA members and are Approved NICEIC Contactors with Extension of approval for Hazardous Areas. In 1997 the Education and Training Division was set up (Paul having taught part-time at Yeovil College since he was 21), initially focusing on adult training adding delivery of the Technical Certificate for Apprentices working with JTL (the largest provider of Electrotechnical Apprenticeship’s) as the managing agent, we are a City and Guilds, EAL, and CompEX approved centre and we continue to focus on electrotechnical and hazardous area training.
Located in Yeovil in a building which also houses our contracting division there are classrooms, meeting rooms, specialist training areas, workshop and assessment rooms accommodating modern practical assessment facilities. We provide contracting, design, training and development solutions to individual and public sector companies.
We operate the AM2 Skills Assessment Centre for the Southwest in an additional building where we also carryout CompEx Skills Assessments.
We employ a manager, head of electrical training, four lecturers, three assessors, a workshop technician, team of administration staff. Several awards have been won over the years including National Winner ‘Training Category’ 1998 Electrical Industry Awards and British Small Business Champions Finalist 2005. In 2017 Paul received the Outstanding Contribution to the Electrical Industry Award, and in 2018 he received the SW Business and Community Lifetime Achievement Award.
